About the Haiti Hustle

At the end of the summer in 2014 Dr. David Bejot was inspired to have a 5k race hosted by DEXA for Global Humanity.  Our primary initiative was to raise awareness about all of the suffering in Haiti.  Dave and I have worked in Haiti for over ten years.  It has been an amazing experience.  We set out out to pour ourselves into a suffering community and country and in return our cup overflows.  We have very limited skillsets.  Dr. David Bejot is a very talented optometrist and I am a mechanical engineer.  It will never cease to amaze me how many wonderful people have come into our lives with the skillsets needed to help us.

I want to personally thank every single person who has helped us, supported us and have engaged with us.  If you have signed up for this race today, thank you so very much.  If you want to know more, please contact us.  We don’t know what tomorrow holds, but we know who holds it.

Sincerely,

Eric R. Messer

What DEXA Does For The People Of Haiti

DEXA is a nonprofit 501c3 corporation formed by Dr. David Bejot and Eric Messer in 2011. DEXA provides comprehensive eye care, medical and technical support for the Claire Heureuse Hospital and resources to the local orphanage in Dessalines, Haiti. DEXA has been very active within the community.

Our latest eye team saw 450 patients, with one doctor, and will assist with a team of cataract surgeons in October. It is incredibly rewarding to witness functionally blind people see again. In June, a team will be working at the orphanage and the school.

DEXA’s long-term goal is to assist in developing a new, state-of-the-art Community Health Center provide education, nutrition, pre-and-post natal care, disease prevention, medicines and vaccinations to the people of Dessalines.
We are always looking for people who want to join DEXA in providing care, education and resources for the community of Dessalines. If you are interested in contributing in a more powerful and impactful way, please check out our giving page to learn more.
